CROSS COUNTRY

CCross Country is an endurance race where competitors complete a 1000m - 2000m track using the classic technique. This timed event uses ankle chips that activate when athletes pass over the start and finish lines. Competitors will start in waves, one minute apart, to prevent congestion on the course. The course is clearly marked with officials and fluorescent tape. At the beginning of the race, there is a double pole zone where athletes are required to use the double pole technique for takeoff.

In the Classic event Competitors can compete as an individual or in a team of 3 competitors from your school. The team results will be determined by the combined times of all three skiers.

In the relay event, teams consist of three athletes, each completing one lap of the course. After finishing their lap, each athlete taps the next team member in the changeover zone to continue the race. The relay is not timed; the first team to cross the finish line wins.

This event is open to students from Division 5 through Division 1.
