Applications open for the Good Village AIS Problem Solvers Primary School Program
Published Mon 15 Apr 2024
The Good Village and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) continue to inspire primary students in 2024, with the extension of their free incursion program featuring two Snow Australia athletes.
The Good Village AIS Problem Solvers Program is available to all primary schools across Australia and is suitable for students from grade 1 through to grade 6. While the program is student-led, teachers are provided with free resources, including a comprehensive teaching guide to support their students throughout the program.
The program can be completed over a series of 8 lessons, with an AIS athlete ambassador delivering two virtual or in-person sessions where they work with students to unpack a problem and design a solution.
The program has so far provided almost 2000 primary students across Australia a unique blend of sports, education and community engagement across its first year. The program inspires students to think BIG, solve problems and create healthier communities.
Launched in 2023 in partnership with Nestle Australia, as part of the Nestle for Healthier Kids initiative, the program bridges sport and education by offering primary school students the chance to learn about science, humanities, arts and economics from Australia's top athletes.
Snow Australia athletes Katerina Paul and Zana Evans will help deliver the program throughout 2024.
Katerina shared her reason for getting involved with the program, "I really wanted to get back into my local community, where I grew up, to give the local kids an opportunity to critically think about sport, sustainability and innovation."
Zana expressed similar reasons for wanting to engage with school communities, "I love helping younger people get equipped with the risk skills whether it involves sport or not. As an athlete I've been offered generous opportunities, which in turn, should be given back to the community."
Spots are now available for schools to book programs for 2024. Visit The Good Village AIS Problem Solvers Program website today, or reach out directly to the program coordinator - laura.hingston@ausport.gov.au.
